With the skyrocketing prevalence of breast cancer it is imperative to take a pro-active approach to prevent this epidemic. Incorporating the following guidelines will assist you with your self-care plan.
1. Eat a diet that consists of primarily whole, unprocessed foods, with an emphasis on optimal levels of fruits and vegetables, preferably organic.
2. Avoid denatured, processed foods, including white flour, white sugar, refined salt, and highly processed cereals and grains.
3. Avoid excess consumption of coffee and soda, which acidify pH levels, and drink adequate water daily. (You should drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces per day. This may include unsweetened herbal tea.)
4. Correct hormone imbalances through the use of bioidentical hormones as necessary. Bioidentical progesterone has been shown through various studies to block estrogenic action and thereby prevent or reduce abnormal cell growth. (More in-depth information can be found in Dr. John Lee's book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer: How Hormone Balance Can Save Your Life)
5. Maintain optimal levels of Vitamin D3 and Iodine through supplementation.
6. Exercise regularly to optimize lymphatic circulation, stimulate thyroid function, and reduce stress.
7. Practice active relaxation techniques or other means of stress management on a daily basis. Prolonged stress increases risk of all degenerative illness.
8. Annual thermography screening will detect physiological changes in breast tissue years before they may be identified by mammography. A routine annual thermogram is a highly desirable screening tool.
